PostScript FAQs
Q. How can I include/download fonts in DesignMerge PostScript jobs?
A. Use your standard Print and Printer options to include/download fonts in PostScript output. If you would prefer to install the fonts on your printer, you can use our Font Collector XTensions module to collect all of the fonts used in your merge template document, including fonts used in EPS images in the document. Font Collector is included in a FREE copy of our Utility Bundle of XTensions for QuarkXPress and also included with several of the optional Print Drivers for DesignMerge.
Q. How can I embed/download fonts in DesignMerge EPS jobs?
A. DesignMerge does not embed/download fonts in DesignMerge jobs that are merged to EPS files. If you need to embed fonts in the EPS files, you can use Font Collector or PagePrinter alongside DesignMerge. Font Collector and PagePrinter are XTensions modules for QuarkXPress that are included in a FREE copy of our Utility Bundle of XTensions for QuarkXPress. Font Collector will collect all fonts used in a document, including fonts used in EPS images in the document. PagePrinter will embed fonts in EPS files. To use PagePrinter alongside DesignMerge to create merged EPS files that have fonts embedded, first merge your document to QuarkXPress files instead of to EPS files. Then, use Page Printer to generate EPS files from the merged QuarkXPress file output.
Q. How do I use DesignMerge to send PostScript output to a Watched Folder (Hot Folder) for Acrobat Distiller?
A. When you are prompted to select the destination folder for the PostScript Files, choose the Watched Folder (Hot Folder) you created using Acrobat Distiller. The PostScript files will automatically be sent to the Watched folder and be distilled. For information regarding how to create, set up, or remove a Watched Folder, please see below.
Q. How do I create a Watched Folder (Hot Folder) for Acrobat Distiller?
A. You can configure Distiller to look in certain folders for PostScript files. When it finds a PostScript file in the In folder in one of these watched folders, it converts the file to PDF and moves the resulting PDF file to the Out folder. A Watched Folder can have its own Distiller job options and security settings that will apply to all files processed from that folder. To set up a Watched Folder (Hot Folder) for Acrobat Distiller:
1. Start the Distiller application.
2. Choose Settings > Watched Folders.
3. Click Add for the folder you want to add as your Watched Folder (you must first have a pre-determined folder created). Use the browser to select the folder, and click OK. Distiller automatically puts an In folder and an Out folder in the Watched Folder.
4. Set options for the folders:
To define security options for a folder, select the folder, click Security, and set the options you want. See Adding security to PDF files for more information. To select an existing set of job options for a folder, select the folder, click Load Options, and select a job options file. See Setting Distiller job options for more information. This file is saved to the watched folder as folder.joboptions. The original job options file is not changed or moved. To customize or define and save your own set of job options, click Job Options or Load Options. See Setting Distiller job options for more information. The resulting file is saved to the watched folder as folder.joboptions. Any original job options file is not changed or moved. To return a folder to the original options selected in the Distiller Window, select the folder, and click Clear Options.
5. Set options to manage the processing of files:
Enter a number of seconds to specify how often to check the folders. You can enter a value from 1 to 9999. (For example, 120 equals 2 minutes and 9999 equals about 2-3/4 hours.) Choose what to do with a PostScript file after it has been processed. The file can be moved to the Out folder along with the PDF file or deleted altogether. Any log file is also automatically copied to the Out folder.
To delete PDF files after a certain period of time, select the option and enter a number of days. You can enter a value from 1 to 999. This option also deletes PostScript and log files, if you have chosen to delete them.
6. Click OK.
To remove a Watched Folder (Hot Folder) for Acrobat Distiller:
Select a folder in the Watched Folders dialog box, and click Remove.
Note: When you remove a Watched Folder, Distiller does not delete the In and Out folders, their contents, or the Folder.JobOptions file. You can delete these when appropriate.
