DesignMerge FAQs

Printing Problems

Q. Fonts are missing when jobs are printed; fonts are not downloading or being embedded in merged output.

A. DesignMerge collects fonts from the document's pages, but does not collect fonts from the document's Master Pages or from Variable Group Pictures.

Q. The Print output type I want to choose is not listed in the Print menu in the DesignMerge window.

A. To choose an output type such as PPML, Creo VPS, or Xeikon PrintStreamer 1, the corresponding XTensions module must be installed. These are optional print drivers that can be purchased by contacting our Sales department at (847) 882-8202 or toll-free at (888) 983-6746.

Q. How can I set up a multi-page merge template document that will use different print settings for its various pages?

A. This is not possible, just as it is not possible to do so when using QuarkXPress's File >> Print to print the document. DesignMerge uses the same print process that QuarkXPress uses. Therefore, in the same way that the print settings you choose when you print the document will be applied to all pages in the print session, the print settings that you choose when you merge the document will be applied to all pages in the document.

To work around this, you can either create different merge template documents for each set of pages that need to be printed differently, or you could use File: Save As QuarkXPress Files to create separate, merged QuarkXPress documents for each merged set of records. Then, depending upon your output requirements, you may be able to use our BatchPrint XTensions for QuarkXPress to print these merged QuarkXPress documents. For more information about our BatchPrint XTensions for QuarkXPress, contact our Sales department at (847) 882-8202 or toll-free at (888) 983-6746.

Q. How can I set up a document to print the same page four times when merging, each time on a different color of stock?

A. Are you printing to one tray where the different colors of stock have already been collated for this job? If you are printing the pages to different print devices or different trays, see the previous FAQ regarding using different print settings for various pages.

If you are printing all of the pages to a single tray on the same print device, do the following:

1) Set up the links on the first page.

2) Copy this page three times to create four identical pages in your document.

3) Confirm the links are sequenced the same on all four pages. Tip: You can use a Test: Variable Link Report merge to confirm this.

4) Change whatever static content needs to be changed on each of the four pages.

5) Merge the document. The same set of records will be merged into all four pages which can each be printed in turn on the next available page of stock in the tray.
