2) Mac OS 9 users: Press the Option key while choosing “About QuarkXPress” from the Apple menu.
Mac OS X users:
Press the Option key while choosing “About QuarkXPress” from the QuarkXPress menu.

Q. A message is displayed that there are too many copies running.

A. This message means that there are more copies running on your network than the number of licenses that you have purchased. To see the number of copies that are currently running, you can download and install a FREE copy of the NetworkChecker XTension for QuarkXPress. The Network Checker will list information about all of the XTensions modules that are currently running on your network, including the user's name and, if available, the name of the computer where each module is running. To download the Network Checker, please click on the link below:

To determine the number of copies to which you are entitled, please refer to your installation package. At this time we do not have this utility available for OS X systems. Please call us so we can determine the status of your software license(s). To purchase additional copies, please contact our Sales department at (847) 882-8202 or toll-free at (888) 983-6746.

Q. What is the basic procedure for debugging an XTensions conflict?

A. Please follow these steps:

1) Create a new, empty folder.

2) Copy your QuarkXPress application into that folder.

3) Create a folder called "XTension" inside of the folder that you created in step 1.

4) Copy the XTensions in question into the new, empty XTension folder. For example, if you are troubleshooting a Font Collector issue, then you would copy the MIS Utility Enabler XTension and MIS Font Collector XTension into that folder.

5) Launch that copy of the QuarkXPress application.

6) Test the XTension to see if you can duplicate the problem.

7) If the problem goes away, then you have a QuarkXPress XTension conflict. If the problem persists, continue with the next step.

8) Re-start your Macintosh, holding down the Shift key. Your O/S startup screen should say "Extensions Disabled".

9) The system will then boot with extensions disabled. Repeat steps 5-6 above.

10) If you still have problems, send all of the files required to duplicate the problem to support@meadowsps.com. We will review the problem and get back to you.

Q. How can I determine the latest release of the Meadows software XTensions? Is there a downloadable demonstration?

Q. Please help me understand where fonts are installed for Macintosh Os X and Classic environments.

A. Fonts can be installed in OS X in a number of places, according to Apple's Typography Group:

~/Library/Fonts/
/Library/Fonts/
/System/Library/Fonts/
/Network/Library/Fonts/
{ClassicStartupVolume}:System Folder:Fonts:

Below is information about each of these locations where fonts can be installed:

/Users/[account]/Library/Fonts/

The [account] represents your home folder. That is, the home folder for the account that is logged-in and running the software. Fonts stored in ~/Library/Fonts/ will be available to you only when you are logged in using this User Name. Applications that you install in your ~/Applications folder may put their custom fonts here. Fonts that are installed in this folder will NOT be available in the Classic environment.

/Library/Fonts/
Fonts stored here will be available to all users of the computer. However, to add fonts to the /Library/Fonts/ folder, you may need authorization. Fonts that are installed in this folder will NOT be available in the Classic environment.

/System/Library/Fonts/
This is where system fonts are stored. Users should never install anything in this folder. Fonts that are installed in this folder will NOT be available in the Classic environment.

/Network/Library/Fonts/
If you are connected to a NetInfo server, the network administrator may install fonts which will show up in this network folder. Fonts that are installed in this folder will NOT be available in the Classic environment.

{ClassicStartupVolume}:System Folder:Fonts:
Any fonts you have installed in your Classic “System Folder/Fonts” folder *should* be available to any user on your machine. This is true whether or not Classic is running. However, we have found this to be somewhat unreliable. Note that if you are managing your fonts using Adobe Type Manager under Classic, those fonts will not be available to OS X. In addition, ATM is still required to properly render any PostScript outline fonts under Classic.

Q. Are your XTensions supported in QuarkXPress v3.x or earlier?

A. None of our XTensions are supported under versions of QuarkXPress earlier than 4.11. If you are experiencing problems with our XTensions in earlier versions of QuarkXPress and would like to obtain an upgrade, please contact our offices at 888.983.6746 and ask to speak to a sales representative, or email sales@meadowsps.com
